Sited in the privileged ‘leasehold’ beachside location within the foreshore park, the surf club is iconic by default. The architecture seeks the best response to climate, user functionality, respect to neighbours, and importantly, a sense of place. Enhancing the experience of all varied users of the club including the lifesavers, staff, local membership and the visiting tourists, the building displays the core values of being sustainably responsive in both the community social sense and to all environmental factors unique to the site.

Architecturally the building is nestled into the natural dunes of the site and respectfully the form of the building folds down to all extremities sensitively mimicking the undulating surrounds. The arcing shape of the North East roof edge expresses the planning layout which carefully shields the public areas from the harsh South East weather and winds, whilst locating patrons in the best position to experience the beautiful vistas.
